What Is a Flight Connection?

A Flight Connection is a planned stop between the starting airport and the final destination. You leave one flight and continue on another flight, often at a connecting airport. The connection may require a gate change, security screening, or baggage transfer. Your itinerary shows the airport, flights, and time allowed between them.

  • The connection time covers gate changes and required airport steps.
  • A connection is not the same as a nonstop flight.

How Flight Connection Works

Flight Connection works by linking an arriving flight with a departing flight at another airport. Your itinerary lists both flight segments and the connecting airport. You leave the first aircraft and follow airport signs to the next gate.

Connection steps depend on the airport and itinerary. You may need to pass security again, collect and recheck baggage, or complete border checks. A connection also has a scheduled transfer period between flights. That period gives you time to move through the airport and board the next flight.

A layover is the time spent between connected flights. A nonstop flight reaches its destination without changing aircraft.

Expert Note

When we arrange Flight Booking, we review each connection point and the steps required between flights. We check whether the itinerary involves a terminal change, baggage collection, or border processing. Our team also matches the connection plan with the cruise departure schedule.
